Procedure for solemnizing a marriage

 

(1) Fill in the form of notice of intended marriage;


(2) Note:

• The marrying parties need not be Hong Kong residents, the parties may be of any nationality.

• The minimum age for getting married is 16 years of age.

• If either party is under the age of 21 but above the age of 16, the consent in writing of the parents must be produced to the Registrar of Marriages upon giving of notice.

• There is no kindred or affinity relationship between both parties.


(3) Documents needed:

• Single: HKID card or passport and address proof of both parties

• Divorced: HKID card or passport and address proof of both parties, together with divorce certificate or court order

• Widowed: HKID card or passport and address proof of both parties, together with death certificate and previous marriage certificate

• (If applicable: Household Register of residents in PRC)


(4) The parties shall sign a written declaration in the presence of our solicitor.


(5) Time:

• You should make an appointment for give a Notice of Intended Marriage at our firm 1 to 2 month before your planned date of marriage.

• The notice has to be exhibited in the marriage registry for 15 clear days.

• After 15 days, the marriage registry issue a Certificate of Registrar of Marriages.

• If a marriage does not take place within three months after the giving of the notice, the notice and all proceedings thereupon shall be void.


(6) Witness:

• You should bring 2 persons aged 18 or above to act and sign as witnesses.
